Faulhorn - Expectations vs. Reality

Word of mouth, high hopes despite the cloudy and rainy weather, white fog walls everywhere, nice pictures and reasons to go again

I've been told so many times that Faulhorn is such a great experience. The views supposedly are absolutely out of this world and it just blows you away.
And looking at all the pictures it definitely seemed like it. So of course we were very much looking forward to going up there.

In the morning when we got up at Grindelwald-First the sun came through several times but in between it was always cloudy or even raining. Our hopes were high though that when we reach the top, we would be over the clouds.

Our high hopes came crushing down pretty fast the further up we hiked. The only thing we saw was a white fog wall all around us. And that's also what we found at over 2.600 meters of altitude. A white fog wall. Literally.
Obviously it did still make for some nice pictures but that was it. We stayed a bit longer although it was freezing with the wind, but the sun never came.
If you want to have a look at how the views would be without that fog go check out the lodge's Instagram page @berghotelfaulhorn.
But you know what, this just gives me a reason to go up there again. This time with the best weather forecast I can wish for! 😉
