Grindelwald-First - Where the Fox Got our Food

Amazing views, different scenery and atmosphere every time, sleep over at the lodge, stealing fox, cliff walk with views and wildlife, missing sunrise and memorable sights

You might have figured out the funny part of this story already by solely reading the title. 😄 But let's start with the fact that the views here are just amazing!

Yes, yes, I know. I say that in practically every post from Switzerland but I mean, can you argue with that? 😉 I'm so absolutely blessed and grateful to be living in a country with such beautiful surroundings!

In 2020 alone I found myself at Grindelwald-First twice and although the view was obviously always the same, the scenery and atmosphere was totally different and each time it was such a great experience to see all of that.

One time we slept over at the lodge up there and it was windy, cold and raining when we reached the house on a late afternoon in May. I had to take a hot shower to warm up first! 🥶

We brought our picnic for two days with us and put some stuff on the window sill outside to keep it cold. As I came back to our room after the shower I looked out of the window and saw a fox. My first reaction was like "Ohhh look, a fox! How amazing". And then the fox looked in my direction and I was like "Ohhh look, he has our food!". Yes, the fox stole our food from the window sill! 😅 Note that the sausages were still packed, we discovered later that he just ripped everything open so he could eat the sausages.

We found out later that this fox is always there and apparently also steals gloves and beanies in winter! 😄 Not sure what he's doing with them but it's definitely a funny story you can tell back home. Yes, we got some pictures of that sneaky little thief too. 🦊

The skies opened up a bit later and we were able to take some beautiful shots outside. Our plan then for the next day was to get up early to catch the sunrise. Somehow we didn't plan that correctly though because when we got up, the sun was already well over the mountain peeks. 😁

But the atmosphere with the sky being partially cloudy and the sun shining through the clouds was really mesmerising! This actually made a great spot for my morning meditation. 🧘🏼‍♀️

And it was also pretty cool to have the cliff walk practically to ourselves. For one it made for some great pictures but it was also a platform to observe the wildlife down bellow in the cliffs.

The second time I went was in September and the weather then was just outstanding. The sun was out fully this time and the experience at Grindelwald-First was of course amazing again.

But you can see that for yourself in the pictures as well. 😉 This time I also had a new drone and loved making use of it!

Sabbu ❤️
